The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) recently took significant steps in a large-scale election-meddling crackdown. As part of the effort, 32 internet domains were seized, and criminal charges were issued against two Russian nationals. These individuals were allegedly involved in a covert operation to influence U.S. elections by distributing pro-Kremlin propaganda through various online platforms. The scheme reportedly funnelled $10 million from the Russian government into a U.S.-based media company, which then pushed out propaganda targeting millions of Americans through social media channels like TikTok and YouTube. The DOJ’s actions are part of a broader initiative to combat foreign interference in the 2024 elections.
This crackdown is part of an ongoing effort to counteract foreign influence in U.S. elections, building on concerns raised since Russia’s alleged involvement in the 2016 election.
